Our Love Story

The Blind Date

After a mutual friend realized they might be the perfect pair, Katie bought a long yellow dress, curled her hair, and headed to a blind date with Christon, who had traveled from Vernon to Tallahassee to meet her. Appetizers turned into dancing in midtown, and the beginning of a love story neither of them saw coming. From the very beginning, their story was filled with road trips, long phone calls, music, and visits worth counting down to. Through every mile and every season, Katie and Christon kept finding their way to each other, until Katie moved to Vernon in 2021. The two have been making sweet music together ever since.

I’ll Lay Down the Beat. You Carry the Tune.

Before they found their harmony together, Christon was performing in the Southeast region with his band, Straight Shooters, while Katie was singing around Tallahassee with the Gypsy Darlings and the Full Moon Bandits. Eventually, their separate melodies became one, and for the last decade, they have been performing together, most notably as staples in the music scene along the 30A corridor in Northwest Florida.

From the beginning, there was something easy about their love. They laughed about everything under the sun, and still, you can usually find them cracking up over the kind of jokes that only get funnier because they're laughing together. What started as a blind date quickly became something neither of them wanted to imagine life without.

Since then, their story has been filled with whitewater rafting down the Ocoee River, frequent trips to Universal Studios, road trips to the Smoky Mountains, beach days, family time, and countless songs sung side by side. Through every season, they have found in each other a best friend, a steady rock, and a favorite person.

A Pebble in His Pocket

When Christon proposed to Katie on March 7, 2026, it was no ordinary proposal.

Friends drove in from miles around, and family even flew in from out of state to watch what they all thought was the main event: Christon and Katie opening for country artist Brett Young at Watersound Camp Creek’s 3rd Annual Rhythm on the Range country music event.

But in front of 3,000 people, Christon surprised everyone, especially Katie, when he paused on stage and said, “I got this pebble in my pocket.” Then, with the crowd cheering, he got down on one knee and asked Katie to marry him.

It was the perfect proposal for two people whose love story has always had its own rhythm, a little humor, and a whole lot of heart.

Now Playing: “I Do”

Thanks for being part of the soundtrack to our celebration. We cannot wait to say “I do.”
